• Large Bluegill Sunfish – Painted Original 1992 This is a favorite, not only because of the large size and the beautiful colors, but the fact that everyone can relate to catching a sunfish sometime in their lifetime. The question is how many of you have caught a true one pound plus sunfish like this one? I received this one pound sunfish in my taxidermy shop to mount for a client. Before I began the mounting process, I used it to create the pattern for this magnificent carving and many others. This piece like the others was carved from a piece Tupelo wood, with the side and pectoral fins were inserted later. The completed piece was painted with an airbrush using water acrylic paints. The base is a shaped piece of Black Walnut a real piece of driftwood to hold the fish. The completed piece sold for $450.00.
